July 22, 2008 - 2008 Rural Energy Conference Announced

The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) and the Alaska Center for Energy and Power at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) announce the 2008 Rural Energy Conference to be held September 16-18 at The Hotel Alyeska in Girdwood. This year’s conference theme is “Developing Local and Renewable Energy Resources.”

November 20, 2007 - AEA Announces Railbelt Grid Technical Conference

The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) will hold a two-day conference for stakeholders and decision makers concerned with the future of the Alaska Railbelt Electrical Grid. AEA organized the conference, slated for November 26 and 27 at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel, to examine the concept of an Alaska Railbelt Electrical Grid Authority (REGA) and its role in the future of the Railbelt interconnected network.

October 12, 2007 - Alaska Wood Energy Conference Announced

The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service, USDA Rural Development, Denali Commission, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, State of Alaska DNR Division of Forestry, UAF Cooperative Extension Service, United States Bureau of Indian Affairs and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, announced the Alaska Wood Energy Conference to be held November 14-16 in Fairbanks.

 

July 31, 2007 - AEA Responds to Beaver Powerhouse Fire

(Anchorage) - Two Rural Electric Utility workers from the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) arrived in Beaver this afternoon with an emergency generator, fuel tank, transformer and additional equipment needed to restore electric power to the village in response to a fire that destroyed the community's powerhouse.

January 18, 2007 - Rural Energy Conference to be held in Fairbanks this April

The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) is coordinating and sponsoring another Rural Energy Conference to be held at the Fairbanks Westmark Hotel. It will take place Tuesday-Thursday, April 24-26, 2007. This year's conference theme is "Managing the High Cost of Power 2007.

December 8, 2006 - Alaska's first Tidal Energy Conference

The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) is spearheading the first Tidal Energy Conference to be held in Alaska. AEA's alternative energy efforts include looking at tidal and ocean energy to displace diesel in areas of Alaska that make economic sense. A variety of experts will give presentations over the two day conference.

December 5, 2006 - Chena geothermal project wins national award

Chena Hot Springs Resort’s innovative new geothermal unit has won another energy award, this time the “2006 On-Site Generation Award” annually bestowed by the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The “Chena Chiller” is an alternative energy project in part funded by an Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) Power Project Fund loan, is located some 57 miles from Fairbanks and is not connected to the grid.

December 1, 2006 - Chena geothermal project wins international award

Chena Hot Springs Resort’s new geothermal unit was named Project of the Year in the Renewables Category as part of an international competition with hundreds of submissions.  The alternative energy project, which came online this August, was in part funded by an Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) Power Project Fund loan.

Among the dignitaries arriving in Interior Alaska to dedicate Alaska's first geothermal power plant, the most "local," Governor Murkowski, a resident of Fairbanks, has been invited to cut the ceremonial ribbon at Chena Hot Springs Resort.
