The Inventory and Assessment Project was initiated with the Powerhouse Inventory and Assessment effort to support the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) in strategically allocating limited funding. The project provides an objective framework for evaluating the condition of powerhouses in rural communities. Data collection began in 2019 and included comprehensive surveys and 3D imagery of powerhouses.
In 2023, the Bulk Fuel Inventory and Assessment component was launched, followed by the Distribution Inventory and Assessment in 2024. Each phase involves detailed surveys, video documentation, photogrammetry, and the creation of Scene Layers (3D representation of a given area) for distribution infrastructure.
All imagery and survey data related to powerhouses are classified as Critical Electric/Energy Infrastructure Information (CEII) and are therefore not publicly accessible. Individuals interested in viewing this data must submit an application for review. Upon approval, AEA will grant access to view the data; however, raw data will not be shared.
No application is required to access bulk fuel imagery. Interested parties may contact AEA via email to request a viewing link.
How to Access Powerhouse Imagery
Contractors and subcontractors who have been hired directly by AEA who want to view data only need to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Facility owners need to fill out a statement of need (form 3) and sign the NDA. Anyone in your organization who wants to view the data will also need to sign an NDA. Any third party who is interested in viewing the data will need to fill out the full application. You will need to get consent from the facility owner you want to view data for. This includes any Federal, State, Tribal, or Local government agencies.
