AEA Awarded $25.6 Million for Grid Resilience Formula Grant Program

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) was awarded $22.1 million for Alaska’s Grid Resilience Formula Grant Program through the Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grants from the United States Department of Energy (DOE). A required state match of 15 percent or $3.6 million was also received for a total of $25.6 million.

AEA Announces $17 Million in Renewable Energy Grants for 18 Statewide Projects

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) announces that $17 million has been appropriated to the Renewable Energy Fund (REF) program for 18 REF grants, which marks the program’s largest capitalization in a decade. The funding is part of its Round 15 application cycle, in which AEA received applications for a variety of renewable technologies. This funding is effective July 1, 2023, for inclusion in Fiscal Year 2024 budget.

AEA Opens Application Period for Renewable Energy Fund Round 16

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) is accepting applications for Round 16 of its Renewable Energy Fund (REF) grants to support renewable energy projects and diversify Alaska’s energy portfolio. For Round 16, the maximum grant request is $2 million and $4 million for communities depending on their energy costs. Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

AEA Seeks Public Input to Update Alaska’s NEVI Plan

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) is working with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) and numerous stakeholders across the state to update the Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Implementation Plan (The Plan), as required by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program. Through the NEVI program, Alaska expects to receive roughly $52 million in formula funding over five years to support the expansion of EV charging in the state.

AEA announces Renewable Energy Fund Round 15 recommendations

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) has completed its evaluation period for Round 15 of the Renewable Energy Fund (REF). On April 5, 2023, AEA presented 27 project recommendations to the Renewable Energy Fund Advisory Committee (REFAC), as required by statute. At the conclusion of its meeting, the REFAC unanimously approved all projects, which have been advanced to the Alaska State Legislature for Fiscal Year 2024 funding consideration, at a total capital request of $25.25 million.

AEA and DOT&PF Release Request for Applications for EV Charging Site Hosts

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) and the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) have released a Request for Applications (RFA) to solicit electric vehicle (EV) charging station site hosts as part of Alaska’s EV Infrastructure Deployment Plan (The Plan). The RFA is the first step in initiating Phase 1 of The Plan. Application packages are due back to AEA by May 1, 2023, at 4 p.m.

AEA Closes on $166 Million in Bond Financing for Transmission Upgrades and Battery Storage

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA), the state’s energy office, has closed today on its previously announced $166 million in bond financing to improve the efficiency and deliverable capacity of power from the Bradley Lake Hydroelectric Project. The bonding by AEA, in partnership with the Railbelt utilities, will come at no additional cost to ratepayers or added burden on the State treasury.

AEA Board Approves $4.9 Million Loan for Alaska’s Largest Solar Project

(Anchorage) — The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) Board of Directors has approved a $4.9 million Power Project Fund (PPF) loan to Energy 49 LLC to convert 45 acres in Houston, Alaska into an 8.5 megawatt (MW)-rated photovoltaic (PV) solar array making it the largest utility-scale PV solar installation in the state.

AEA Board Approves Bonding for Transmission Upgrades and Battery Storage

(Anchorage) — Today, the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) Board of Directors unanimously approved an estimated $175 million in bond financing to improve the efficiency and capacity of power from the Bradley Lake Hydroelectric Project. The bonding by AEA, in partnership with the Railbelt utilities, will be at no additional cost to ratepayers and with no burden on the State treasury. Closing of the bond transaction is expected to take place on or before December 2, 2022.

AEA and DOT&PF Secure Approval for Alaska’s EV Infrastructure Deployment Plan

(Anchorage) — Today, the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) and the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) received approval from the United States Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to implement Alaska’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Deployment Plan (The Plan) to build a network of EV charging stations along the state’s highway corridors.

AEA and GVEA Awarded $12.8 Million Grant to Expand Electricity to Black Rapids Training Site

(Anchorage) — The Department of Defense announced Friday that the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) was awarded a $12,752,540 grant from the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation under the Defense Community Infrastructure Pilot Program. The grant was applied for by AEA in collaboration with Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) and will support the construction of a 34-mile electric distribution line extension along the Richardson Highway to the Black Rapids Training Site (BRTS).
